I graduated from Mount Vernon HS and went on to Dartmouth College where I received a degree in Engineering Sciences. I entering the Marines after graduation and flew A4 Skyhawks. After my tour I worked restoring 18th Century houses in Connecticut, then went back to school, getting a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon. I moved back to Washington State and worked in architecture and planning firms. I missed aviation, so I worked for three years as the Airport Manager at Skagit Regional Airport in the early ’80’s, and then joined the engineering and planning firm Reid Middleton, becoming the Director of the Aviation Division. I now run a small outdoor products company importing and selling high-end inflatable kayaks.

I grew up in Utah and Wyoming and started flying when I was in High School, and worked at the local airport. I had my Commercial License before I graduated. During my college years I worked as an A&P mechanic. The summer between my junior and senior year I got my first pilot job. I flew tours of Bryce Canyon. I graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. in Industrial Technology. After college, I moved to Las Vegas and started a part 135 air taxi business. I was also a partner in an aircraft maintenance business. I left Las Vegas to fly a Lockheed Electra freighter for a company based in Miami. I was flying as captain on the Electra when Northwest Airlines hired me. For the last 28 years I have been with Northwest, which is now Delta Air Lines.

I was born and raised in Seattle. I graduated from Central Washington State University and joined the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife as a Biologist/Land Manager. My father (Jack Garrett) served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. My nephew (James Francis) is a C-130 Special Ops pilot for the U.S. Air Force. I ‘ve always been interested in aviation, and passed my private pilot’s “check ride” on May 27, 2010. I’m currently flying a well-restored 1946 Aeronca Champ, loving ‘stick, rudder, tandem, and tailwheel ‘ flying. My most exciting flying experience: Flying with Clint Churchill on Oahu in an Extra 300L, doing his entire show routine and loving every second of it!! Then flying the basic Maneuvers myself! Wahoo!

I moved to Skagit County with my new bride Nancy, in May 1971 right out of college. In 1976 I got involved in the Real Estate business and in November 1979 Nancy and I opened Landed Gentry Realty. Over the years the company gravitated into land development and home building. In 1993, I fulfilled a life long dream of getting my pilots license and shortly thereafter purchased a Cessna 172. Currently, I fly a 1980 A36TC Beechcraft Bonanza.

I graduated from Auburn Univ in 1966 with a degree in Aero Engineering. I married my college sweetheart, Kathy, and moved to Seattle to work for Boeing. That lasted until the SST program was cancelled. I learned to fly and obtained my Private license in 1972. I got my real estate license and made that my vocation. Kathy and I moved to our home in Sedro Woolley in 1999. We joined EAA Chapter 818 and bought an Avid Flyer. Since then I have built and flown 2 BD-5s. I currently have and fly a Cessna 172.

I graduated from the backseat of husband Jerry Burr J3 Cub with attainment of my Sport Pilot rating in May 2012. Navy pilots in the family facilitated an appreciation for flight but most powerful was a 15 minute seaplane ride at Lake Cushman as an 8 year-old that planted the initial love of flying seed. Never under estimate the power of a Young Eagle or other introductory flight. Born and raised in Seattle, Becky received a degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Puget Sound in 1980 and promptly moved to the Skagit Valley. She is mother to 3 adult children and may yet seek a Private Pilot rating. Married to an innovator in aviation who is truly one with his plane, Becky aspires to landing their STOL aircraft with bush pilot skill. Pilot or passenger, the thought, ‘Im so lucky to fly’, accompanies every departure.

My wife, Karen, and I moved to Skagit County after I graduated from the University of Idaho in 1980 as a Civil Engineer. I worked for the Texaco Refinery before starting Sturdy Engineering in 1988. Karen and I raised two girls and sent them to different parts of the country. More flying that way. I started my flight training with Carl Hamlin in June 2005, soloed in August. I tested and received my private pilot’s license in January 2006. I enjoy mountain flying and camping.

I soloed in April of 1973. I started flying professionally in December 1978, and have been a current CFI ever since. I enjoy instructing. Last August I broke the 20,000 hour mark. I still cant believe it. And most of that was in general aviation aircraft. I am currently flying for Corporate Air Center based here at Skagit. Also I have served as President of the North Sound Chapter of the Washington Pilots Association for four terms, Vice president for two terms and Newsletter Editor for two years. I also enjoy flying without an aircraft i.e. as a skydiver.
Alan Anders: <alan@heritageflight.org>
Alan pursued a career in commercial art, computer animation at his own production company and at Dreamworks Animation. It was not until much later that he went on to finally pursue his love of flying. In 16 years of flying he amassed over 3000 hrs, mainly in ex-military war birds. He earned his instrument, commercial, helicopter, fixed wing ratings, and type ratings in the L-39 jet, T-28, and AD-4 Skyraider, and also flys the p-51 Mustang. As an air show performer, he flew the Skyraider for 5 years with the FA-18 E/F Super Hornet with the Navy’s Tailhook Legacy Flight program, and flew the AT-6 Texan for four years with the Texan II trainer in the Air Force’s Texan Flight program. He is currently the Director of Operations for Heritage Flight Museum at Skagit Regional Airport, WA, where they operate 13 vintage military aircraft. Alan still manages to pursue artwork and lives in Bellingham with his wife and 3 daughters.

I moved to the area in 1993 with the Navy and retired in 2001 after 25 years of Naval service. I received my Private pilot’s license in 1997. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 2004. I graduated Columbia College of Missouri with an MBA in 2006. I served two terms as President of the Washington Pilot’s Association, Anacortes Chapter. I currently have and fly a Piper Cherokee 140.
